The Police Credit Union would like to once again advise its members of another phishing scam. It is a phishing email targeting CUA asking Members to click on a link to complete their details.

ANZ Phishing Email
Police Credit Union is warning its Members of an ANZ phishing email. We again ask that you NEVER click on the link to access any form of Internet Banking. But rather enter the website address in the address bar at the top of the browser.

Paypal Phishing Email
Police Credit Union is warning its Members of a Paypal phishing email. Whilst it looks genuine (by using the logo), it links you to a fake website, which then asks for Paypal account details. We would like to remind our members to NEVER click on links contained in emails, but rather enter the related website via typing the websites address into the navigation bar.

There is spam email circulating at the moment that claims to be from Paypal. The Police Credit Union recommends that you delete this email if you have received it. The email suggests you have been deducted funds from your Credit Card. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately. It also includes a link at the bottom of the email asking you to confirm the transaction. Do not attempt to use this link.

Dell Phishing Email
There is spam email circulating at the moment that claims to be a Dell order confirmation. This fake email has a subject line similar to “Dell Order Has Been Confirmed for Order Number 123456789”. The Police Credit Union recommends that you delete this email if you have received it. Though it looks similar to Dell order confirmation emails the fake email does not contain “Bill to” or “Ship to” information. Legitimate order confirmation emails contain this information. The link provided to “check the order in your profile” is not legitimate. Do not attempt to use this link.
The Police Credit Union further recommends that you ensure that your security features (spyware, antivirus & firewall) on your computer are up to date.

The Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent phishing email appearing to be issued by ANZ. The email requests recipients confirm their personal details to reactive accounts. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately.

Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent phishing email appearing to be issued by Westpac. The email requests recipients confirm their personal details to access upgraded security measures. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately.

ASIC released strong warning
Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent media release from The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), concerning an international cold calling scheme targeting Australians. The release details a strong warning urging people to ignore any information that they receive in relation to Metrofinancials. If you receive a call from someone offering you an investment opportunity, no matter who they claim to be, it is necessary to recognise that this may be a potential scam. The best way to protect yourself in these situations is to simply hang up the phone.

Bank of Queensland Online Account Access Phishing Email
Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent phishing email appearing to be issued by Bank of Queensland. The email requests recipients reconfirm their personal details in order to reactivate their online account access. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately.

Westpac Debit Mastercard Upgrade Phishing Email
Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent phishing email appearing to be issued by Westpac. The email requests recipients upgrade there EFTPOS card to a Westpac Debit Mastercard, as their current card is close to expiration. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately.

A more devious version of phishing emails.
Police Credit Union is warning Members to be on the look-out for a confirmation e-mail for a PayPal or a credit card payment. This scam preys on people's fears that their credit card or PayPal details may have been stolen during the transaction and offers a highlighted "cancel transaction" option and link. Taking this step, rather than deleting the e-mail, will see the victim's PayPal account drained for real. The link goes to the scammer's fake website which asks for the receiver's account details.
Remember: Never respond to e-mails or click on links in emails asking for your financial or personal information.
Visa Phishing Email
Police Credit Union is warning Members of a recent phishing email appearing to be issued by the Visa Service Department. The email requests recipients to register a password to ensure security with Verified by Visa. Although it may appear genuine, it is fraudulent and should be deleted immediately.

Visa – titled: VISA Bank Account is fraudulent and it will be suspended
Visa does not initiate contact with cardholders by email or solicit personal cardholder details via email, nor do they request information through links embedded in an email.

BPAY – titled: Safe Banking Protection
This email asks recipients to download software as part of a false initiative by BPAY to upgrade its security measures. There is also an implied deadline suggesting that if the software is not downloaded within 31 days, their BPAY functionality will be disabled. Please disregard any unsolicited communication you may receive regarding upgraded security measures for BPAY.

Credit Union – titled: $50 Reward Survey
This email entices recipients to participate in an online survey for an award of $50 which will be credited to their account once they complete the survey. Recipients are required to click on a link embedded within the email which directs them to a false website that asks for the following details: Card Number, PIN Number, and Card Verification Value 2 (CVV2) – which is the 3 digit code located on the signature panel on the back of the card. This email is false and should be deleted immediately.
Police Credit Union does not send emails requesting you to confirm, update or disclose your confidential account information.
